James Austin

Actor | Teaching Artist – NYC

James Austin

James Austin is an Actor & Teaching Artist based out of New York City.

He was lucky enough to earn an MFA in Professional Acting from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol, UK.

Originally from Long Island, New York, he got his start at a very young age.
According to legend James’s first performance took place at a family picnic where he performed a stirring rendition of Prince’s “Lets Go Crazy” from the film Purple Rain.
While Prince’s classic burst forth from a nearby radio, this tour de force performance came complete with as much choreography from the film that a 3 year old could execute. With a yellow wiffle ball bat as his guitar and a cooler doubling as his piano with which to leap off, the only thing missing was His Royal Badness having a front row seat. There have been claims that footage of this performance exists however no physical evidence has ever been produced.

James went on to pursue acting as he grew up. Continuing in school, classes and working in NYC as often as he could. Once he was able to he began working regionally. as well. James fell in love with classical work and has appeared in many Shakespeare productions over the years. From theaters, to parks, to gymnasiums, James is grateful for the road he has taken and led him to this point in his life.

James took a break for a while and became a member of the New York City Police Department. That particular journey helped him learn and grow in ways that he himself can’t express in a brief bio. When it was time to part ways with the NYPD he returned to regional theater and worked right up until leaving for his graduate studies in the UK.

Having now returned James is ready to get to work. He is looking forward to helping tell the stories that need to be told and helping in any way he can.

My name is James Austin and I can’t wait to work with you.
